In 2008, Troy was ranked 22nd on a list of “Best Places to Live” in the United States by CNN Money, using criteria including housing, quality of education, economic strength, and recreational opportunities. In 2008, Troy ranked as the fourth most affordable U.S. city with a median household income of approximately $79,000.   Troy is surrounded by Clawson, Royal Oak, and Birmingham.


In 2003, Troy was named Michigan’s Sportstown by Sports Illustrated magazine for having the top community sports programs in the state. Troy is home to the Troy Sports Center, which is the official training facility of the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL. The facility is also used for indoor soccer, hockey, and lacrosse leagues, and is home to the city’s high school hockey teams.

Troy has many education opportunities available within its city. Troy is home to Walsh College, many other education institutions have branches in Troy, Michigan such as University of Phoenix, Central Michigan University, Spring Arbor University, International Academy of Design and Technology, ITT Technical Institute, and Michigan State University has its Management Education Center (Eli College of Business).


The Troy School District has six national blue ribbon and 13 State Exemplary Schools.

The Oakland-Troy Airport is considered the County’s ‘executive’ airport. This is primarily for businesses and tourists using private, corporate and charter aircraft.  This airport is located between Maple Road and 14 Mile Road.


Troy is home to the 52-4 district court which serves the multiple local municipalities.  This court is located at 520 W. Big Beaver Rd. Troy, MI 48084.  The court has three divisions including civil including landlord tenant, criminal including drunk driving, dui, owi, owil, and all traffic matters.  52-4 District Court does not hear cases with the amount in controversy over $25,000.  These cases over $25,000 dollars are heard in the Oakland Circuit Court Located in Oakland County Michigan at 1200 N. Telegraph Rd. Pontiac, MI. This Court is also home to a family division which hears case involving divorce, child custody, paternity, child support, personal protection orders etc.  In addition, Troy, Michigan is also subject to the Probate Court at Oakland Circuit Court. The probate Court handles matters such as decedent’s estates, wills, trusts, guardianships, patient advocate issues, power of attorney issues etc.
