Rochester is a city in Metro Detroit, in northeast Oakland County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 12,711 at the 2010 census.
The city has held the annual "Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade" since 1951. Held on the first Sunday in December, it features over 100 units, and since 2003 has been broadcast live on local Detroit television station WXYZ-TV. The television station website claims it to now be Michigan's largest Christmas parade.
In 2006, the city had its first "Big Bright Light Show" for the Christmas season. The downtown businesses were covered in 500,000 individual lights. An expansion of the program after its initial inception expanded that coverage to a reported one million lights. Also aired by WXYZ-TV. Rochester has a vibrant downtown shopping district. The Farmer's Market takes place every Saturday, May through October. It features fresh produce, flowers, handmade goods and other products from Michigan.
Royal Park Hotel – In September 2004, the Royal Park Hotel, a four-diamond luxury boutique hotel, designed by Victor Saroki opened in downtown Rochester. It cost $43 million to build. Several celebrities have stayed there, including Paul McCartney, Hugh Hefner, and former President George W. Bush (while seeking re-election).
Rochester is home to well renowned colleges in Metro Detroit. Oakland University is a top-rated academic institution in Rochester, MI that offers 132 bachelor’s degree programs and 124 graduate degree and certificate programs. Rochester College was founded in 1959, and is a more condensed college offering a variety of degrees for students.

Adams High School has 2015 National Merit Commended Scholars. This refers to the nationwide pool of commended scholars that represents the top two percent of United States high school seniors who participated in the PSAT as juniors.
Both Van Hoosen Middle School and Musson Elementary School have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon schools.
Oakland County Circuit Court- The Circuit Court is a division of the state judiciary and serves as a trial court of general jurisdiction serving all the citizens of Oakland County.
It hears both civil and criminal cases, as well as appeals from the District Court, Probate Court, family law cases and administrative agencies.

The City of Rochester runs through the 52nd District Court 3rd Division located at 700 Barclay Circle Rochester Hills, MI 48307. There are five divisions including administration, civil, criminal, probation and traffic divisions.
The civil division handles landlord/tenant disputes, small claims cases, and weddings. The criminal division handles cases such as violation of probation, contested hearings, bond hearings, restitution hearings, and competency hearings. The probation division has eight full-time probation officers on staff. The traffic division handles civil infraction traffic tickets.
