Plymouth, “City of Homes”, is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located approximately 35 minutes from the City of Detroit.  The population in 2013 was at 8,952. The racial makeup of the city was 96.42% White, 0.57% African American, 0.35% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.31% of the population. 20.4% were of German, 13.2% Irish, 12.4% English, 10.7% Polish and 7.9% Italian ancestry according to Census 2000.  

Plymouth was first settled in 1825, incorporated as a village in 1867 and became a city in 1932.

In 2009 Plymouth Township was named 28th Best Place to Live in the United States by CNN Money Magazine.


CULTURE

The City of Plymouth has a variety of recreational services provided by the Plymouth’s Recreation Department and Cultural Center. The City offers over 90 different programs to its citizens, from children to elderly citizens.

The City of Plymouth attractions also include NHL size Ice Rink, Don Massey Baseball Field, Kellogg Park, twelve neighborhood parks and The Inn at St. John's which is a hotel conference center and golf resort. The City also organizes major community events such as the popular Fall Festival, Ice Sculpture Spectacular, Music in The Air and the Art in the Park art fair.

SCHOOL SYSTEM

The Plymouth-Canton Community School District consists of three high schools, five middle schools, and sixteen elementary schools. Within the City of Plymouth there are also private schools such as New Morning School and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.

COURT SYSTEM

Plymouth, Michigan is home to the 35th District Court. The 35th District Court serves the five communities of Canton, Plymouth City, Plymouth Township, Northville City, and Northville Township. This court is located at 660 Plymouth Rd. Plymouth, MI 48170. The court has three divisions including civil including landlord tenant, criminal including  drunk driving, dui, owi, owil, and all traffic matters. 35th  District Court does not hear cases with the amount in controversy over $25,000.  These cases over $25,000 dollars are heard in the
2 Woodward Ave #1501 Detroit, MI.  This Court is also home to a family division which hears case involving divorce, child custody, paternity, child support, personal protection orders etc.  In addition, Plymouth is also subject to the Probate Court at 2 Woodward Ave #1501 Detroit, MI.  The probate Court handles matters such as decedent’s estates, wills, trusts, guardianships, patient advocate issues, power of attorney issues etc.
